We’ve covered before how to customize the taskbar thumbnail size in Windows 7 but here comes a tool that can not only change the size of the taskbar thumbnail but also alters the other settings as well, and does it with a very simple user interface.
Taskbar Thumbnail Tuner is a free portable utility that allows you to modify several settings of taskbar thumbnails in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Just slide the bar to change the settings, and click Apply button to make the change live. Once Apply button is clicked, basically the program will shut the Explorer.exe and restart it to take the changes affect. The settings this tool can change include:
  • Adjust thumbnails size
  • Adjust number of grouped application windows thumbnails
  • Adjust horizontal spacing between the thumbnails
  • Adjust vertical spacing between the thumbnails
  • Adjust thumbnail’s caption position
  • Adjust top margin
  • Adjust bottom margin
  • Adjust left margin
  • Adjust right margin
  • You can completely disable taskbar’s thumbnails.
Yes, you can even completely disable it if it annoys you more than fascinating you. Then you will have no preview popping up once you decide to disable it.
I personally found that adjusting the taskbar thumbnail size is very useful because it provides you more visible info than the default size which is always too small to be any useful. The only complain I have is that the tool maximize the size up to 500 but if you do the registry hack mentioned in this post you can get even bigger size.
The Taskbar Thumbnail Tuner works on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 system, both 32bit and 64bit editions.
