Tips and tricks to get the most out of your iPhone 5

iPhone 5 review
The iPhone 5, by Apple
Published on Oct 5, 2012
The iPhone 5 is just as intuitive as every iPhone that came before it, but we offer some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of the device. Whether you're a first time iPhone user or a seasoned veteran, we've made sure to include a little something for everyone. By the end of this guide, you should be a little more savvy than all your other iPhone 5-toting friends!
1. Opening and closing apps: It seems simple enough, but I'm baffled by how many people don't know how to close apps out of the system tray. You'll need to do this every now and then if an app is acting funny or crashing. To open an app, just tap on it. To close an app out of the tray, go to your home screen, double tap the home button and all of your most recently used apps will pop up. Press and hold any one of the apps until they start wiggling and you can hit the red badges on the apps you want to close.
2. Lock and unlock screen orientation: If you want the screen to stay in portrait mode while you're lying down in bed or on the grass at a picnic, simply double tap your home button to bring up the system tray. Swipe the tray to the left and you'll see the orientation lock at the far left. Simply tap it to turn it on or off!
3. Using Siri: If you need a little help from Apple's digital assistant, simply press and hold the home button for a few seconds and you'll see Siri's microphone pop up. Tell her to set a calendar event for you or to set an alarm. You can even have Siri reserve tables at restaurants or give you movie times and reviews. If you're unsure what you can ask Siri, simply press the little "i" when the microphone pops up.
4. View your notifications, current weather and more: See that black bar up at the top of your screen? You can touch and drag that down to view your notifications and all kinds of other goodies. If you're in an app or game where the bar isn't visible, simply swipe down from the very top of your screen and you'll see a tab slide out. Pull that tab down and the notification pane will slide down.
5. Find apps, contacts, e-mails and more with ease: When you're on the very first page of your home screen, simply swipe to the left and the iPhone 5's universal search bar will appear. Find what you're looking for there!
6. Shoot photos with your camera, then do a little more with it: Open up the camera app by tapping on the camera icon, then simply press the shutter button or the iPhone 5's volume up key to snap photos! Looking for a little more functionality? Press the Options button and you'll see toggle switches for Grid, HDR and a panorama button. You can also turn flash on and off or set it to auto, or switch to the front-facing camera. The grid comes up to help you compost images and make sure your horizons are straight. HDR makes sure you get details in photos that have very bright and very dark areas in one scene. The Panorama button will take you to a new feature in iOS 6 that allows you to take a sweeping photo of a very wide scene. Simply follow the instructions that pop up on the screen!
7. Download and update apps: Open the App Store and feel free to poke around for apps you might like. Don't see what you're looking for? Try the search tab indicated by the magnifying glass. If you see a red badge on the update section or on the app icon from one of your home screens, it means an app needs your attention. You can update apps one at a time, or simply hit "Update All" and let your phone do the rest.
8. Set a passcode lock and protect your phone: Go into Settings, then click General and scroll down to Passcode Lock. Turn it on and select a code that's easy to remember. Our phones tend to have social networks, e-mail, photos and other sensitive items that we want to keep from prying eyes, so be sure to lock your device!
9. Refresh your e-mail with a simple gesture: Addicted to e-mail? If you don't have push e-mail set up, you can simply go into your e-mail inbox or list of inboxes and swipe the whole screen downward. This will force your iPhone 5 to check for new messages.
10. Take a screen shot: See something on your device that you want to share or keep as a photo? Take a screen shot! It's easy -- all you have to do is press the power button up top and your home button at the exact same time anywhere you are on the phone. Whether you're in an application, on the home screen, in a game or in the middle of a video, press those two buttons at the same time and a screen shot will be saved into your Photos app.
11. Dictate your messages and e-mails: Don't feel like typing? Let the iPhone 5 do the work. Whenever the keyboard pops up, tap the little microphone next to the space bar and start talking. Whenever you want to insert a period or question mark, simply say "period" or "question mark." You'll need a data connection for this to work, so if you're in a subway on a plane or in the middle of Antarctica, this may not work.
SAFARI
12. Go full screen: To go into full screen mode in Safari, simply turn your phone to landscape mode (make sure screen orientation is unlocked) and you'll see the expansion arrows on the lower right-hand side. Tap the arrows and you're in full screen mode! To reverse it, tap the arrows again.
13. Save a Web page to your home screen: When you're on the page you want to access quickly from your home screen, tap the arrow button on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. A list of options will come up; select "Add to Home Screen." Now you'll have an icon on your home screen that will take you straight to that Web page. This is useful for Google Maps (simply go to maps.google.com in your browser) if you hate Apple Maps.
14. Search for text within a Web page: Looking for a word or phrase in a web page like Wikipedia or a news article? Simply type in the word or phrase you're looking for in the search bar on the upper right, and scroll down past the related search terms to see if the word or phrase appears on the page. It will also tell you how many times it appears on the page. Click on the word or phrase and it will shoot you to it on the Web page, highlighted in yellow. Click the forward or back arrows to cycle through the other sections of the Web page where the word or phrase appears.
15. Save an article for offline reading, or read it as text only: See the URL bar on Safari? It's got that icon on it that says "Reader." Click that and you'll see a beautiful, text-only version of the article or page you're trying to read -- free of ads and photos. Want to save that article for offline reading? Hit the arrow button at the bottom of the screen (in normal view) and you'll see a selection of options pop up. Click on "Add to Reading List" and now, when you click on your bookmarks icon, you'll find the article saved in the Reading List bar (the one with the eyeglasses icon).
16. Save an image from the Web: Simply tap and hold on any image you see and tap "Save Image" when the option pops up. The image will be saved into your Photos app.
MAIL
17. Search your inbox: Looking for a message? Once you get into your inbox of choice, simply pull down on the screen and a search bar will be unveiled. Can't find what you're looking for? You'll have the option of checking your e-mail server if the iPhone 5 can't find it in its history.
18. Batch edit/flag/delete messages: Click edit in your inbox and select messages you want to Archive, Delete or Move to specific mail folders.
19. Set up VIP contacts: With iOS 6 on the iPhone 5, you can set up VIP contacts so that all your important messages are organized in one place. You can even set up notifications so that when your VIP contact messages you, you'll know right away that it's not just another junky e-mail coming through. Click here and we'll show you how to set up VIP on your iPhone 5.
20. Insert images into your e-mail: You can either share directly from your Photos app, but what if you're composing an e-mail and you decide you want to throw an image into the body? Simply go into your photos app and, in gallery view, click the edit button on the upper right. Select the image or images you want and click copy. Go back into your e-mail, press and hold in the body where you want to insert the images, and select "paste."
21. Quickly edit your drafts: If you press and hold the compose button in your mailbox, you'll be taken straight to your drafts where you can edit or send off messages that are ready to go.
EXTRAS
22. Scrubbing music and video: Do you want to scrub through audio or video a little slower than the default mode? When you touch the progress bar on video or music to skip forward or back, press and hold the progress indicator and slide your finger downward and you'll have the option for half, quarter and fine scrub. This way you can move forward and back over just a few seconds instead of like 20 or 30 seconds at a time.
23. Update your Twitter or Facebook status quickly: If you log into your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts in Settings (Go into Settings and scroll down for Twitter and Facebook), you can update your status from anywhere on the phone. Simply pull the notification center down by dragging the bar that shows you the time and your battery ilfe, and you'll see two buttons for Twitter and Facebook. Simply tap either one and you're set!
24. Add special characters in your messages and e-mails: Looking for a letter with an umlaut or something a little special? Simply press and hold a key on your keyboard and you'll see a bunch of special characters pop up. Slide your finger over to the one you want and you're done.
25. Find your stolen iPhone: Install Find my iPhone from the App Store and make sure you're all set up on iCloud. A friend lost her iPhone at a party over the weekend and had Find my iPhone on her device, but wasn't set up over iCloud! You need both, folks, so head over to www.icloud.com and set up an account and do the same in your phone under Settings (in Mail, Calendars, Contacts).
26. Set Do Not Disturb so that, well, you aren't disturbed: Go into your Settings and turn on Do Not Disturb. You can set this feature to turn on and off at certain times of the day, and you can even let certain users get through to you while the feature is on. Or if someone calls you multiple times within a short time span, the call will get through as it's either an emergency or just a really drunk friend with a really great story to tell.
27. Save battery life by managing Notifications: Go into your settings and you'll find Notifications just underneath Do Not Disturb. From there, you can manage the types of notifications you want to get from certain apps. Do you really need your screen to turn on and your device to notify you every time someone replies to a tweet on Twitter? Turn off the "View on lock screen" feature for apps that can wait. It'll save you a headache and battery life since your display won't be turning on every single time you get a notification from every app that supports push notifications.
28. Tap to scroll to top: 99 percent of apps will let you get to the top of the screen right away simply by tapping the notification bar. That's right. Just tap the time or anywhere on that top bar and you'll scroll right up to the top. It's especially useful in apps like Safari, Twitter and Facebook where stuff is updated all the time, or there are menus and features at the top of a page. Mega handy.
29. Sharing contacts and locations: Did you know that you can share addresses and contacts with your friends via Messages? Go into a contact or an address from Maps and look for the "Share Contact" or "Share Location" buttons. Tap the buttons and you'll get an option to share via Messages or through e-mail. Seems easy enough, but when I shared a contact this way with a friend who was pretty mobile savvy, he asked me if I was a wizard! The beauty is that if you're sharing with other iPhone users, they can quickly add the contact to their address book with the touch of a button. As our editor Marin Perez would say, "Neato burrito."
30. Add emoticons or "Emoji" to your text: Typing in a colon and parentheses is a decent way of letting someone know you're smiling, or thinking of smiling, or that you aren't sending a nasty message. But you can take it to a whole new level by adding in a few pints of beer and an eerily smiling cat. Simply go into Settings>General>Keyboard>Keyboards>Add new keyboard>Emoji. When you go into Messages or anywhere else the keyboard pops up. Tap the little globe next to the space bar and you'll see all of these glorious icons you can send to other iOS users.
Enjoy your new iPhone 5!

iPhone 5 tips and tricks

iPhone 5 tips and tricks
Just bought an iPhone 5? This guide will help you make the most of your new phone with a myriad of helpful features you may not know your phone has.
The iPhone 5 is here and Apple sold 5 million units in the first three days, so there will undoubtedly be a few of you out there looking for some handy pointers. Below are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most from your new phone.

Copying your old data

iOS 6 iCloud backupIf you’re upgrading from an older iPhone then you can copy across your contacts, apps, data and settings easily.
Simply make an iTunes backup and then copy it to your new iPhone. To do that, connect your USB cable, right click on your device in iTunes, and select Backup. Connect your iPhone 5 and right click on it in iTunes and then select Restore from backup.
If you’re last iPhone was running iOS 5 or iOS 6, you can use iCloud to do this. Just go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup on your device and make sure it’s toggled on. You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection and it will probably take a while, so we would advise just plugging your phone in and using iTunes instead.
For contacts, you can copy them onto your nano-SIM card and stick it into your new iPhone 5, then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Import SIM Contact. If you don’t have a nano-SIM in your old phone, you can export your contacts. Different phones have different methods. One of the simplest ways, if you are switching from Android, is to save your contacts in Gmail and then set up your Gmail account on your iPhone 5 via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. You’ll get the option to import them.

Security

iPhone 5 passcodeIt is a good idea to go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock and set one up. That will prevent people from taking a look through your phone. You can also set your auto-lock timer in Settings > General which will both save battery power and increase the security of your phone. If you’re confident you can remember your four-digit PIN, there is also an option to have your phone wipe itself (completely delete all memory) if a PIN is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row. This is a potentially dangerous option for the scatterbrained among us, but could save your data if it’s stolen.

Social media

Facebook and Twitter have been fully integrated into iOS 6. This means you can share any content quickly and easily via the Share button.
Before you do that, you’ll need to set up your accounts. In Settings you’ll find Facebook and Twitter entries that let you input your account details once and then you’ll never have to enter them again. You may want to switch the Contacts toggle in the Facebook menu to “off“ before you do or you’ll end up importing contacts from Facebook into your Address Book.

Tips for Siri

iPhone 5 Tweet from SiriIf you’re new to Siri then you’ll want to play around with it. Press and hold your Home button to activate Siri. When “What can I help you with?” comes up, tap the “i” and you’ll get a list of what Siri can do.
You can teach Siri about people and locations by telling it things like “Jenny is my wife.” You can also dictate messages and emails. In fact, with iOS 6, you can use Siri to post tweets and Facebook updates. You can even launch apps with Siri now.

Tips for Maps

If you aren’t too keen on the new Maps App then check out our alternative iOS 6 map apps roundup. If you want to give it a try then you’ll find it’s easy to use. Touch and hold anywhere on a map to drop a pin. That gives you an exact address and allows you to select Quick Route for turn-by-turn directions, just hit the car icon and then Start.
You can tap “3D” to try out the Flyover mode and tilt and zoom to explore. You can also just tap the compass icon at any time to find North.

Camera tips

iPhone 5 panorama modeYou can access your camera directly from the lock screen on the iPhone 5 by sliding up the camera icon. Simply tap on the screen to decide what you want to focus on. You can also pinch to zoom in the camera app.
You’ll find the new Panorama mode in Options in the Camera app and it allows you to slowly pan around to capture a panorama shot. Just hit done when you’re finished. You can also tap the arrow to change direction.
If you want to take a screenshot of whatever is currently on your screen, press and hold the Power button and then press the Home button. You’ll see a flash to indicate the screenshot was taken.
(Note: We’d love to give you a tip to avoid the infamous purple lens flare issue that’s popped up with the iPhone 5, but there currently isn’t a fix for this. Apple may issue a patch for it in the future, but for now, you need to avoid aiming your iPhone near the sun if you hate the color violet.)

Miscellaneous tips for iPhone 5

iPhone 5 keyboard shortcutsIf you double click the Home button you can scroll over to the right and lock your screen orientation in landscape or portrait. You can also see active apps and touch and hold them to turn them off, access the volume controls, and use Air Play from this menu.
If you don’t want to be disturbed, you can go to Settings and toggle Do Not Disturb on and incoming call, notifications and messages won’t bother you. They’ll still be collected, but your iPhone won’t make a sound or light up.
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts and you can set up your own personal shortcuts for typing messages. You can also add loads of emoticons to your text messages by going to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboard and selecting Emoji.
When you are reading a web page in Safari and you want to skip to the top quickly, just tap the status bar.
For more iPhone 5 tips go to Bookmarks in Safari, scroll down and tap iPhone User Guide.

Messages Couldn’t Send the Message to xxx [How to Resolve]

Congratulations! You gave into all the positive news around OS X Mountain Lion and got yourself one. Readers of this website suggest that Messages is one of the most sought after feature of OS X Mountain Lion.
Messages or iMessage lets you can send messages to anyone who has an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later, or a Mac with Mountain Lion. Nice feature, but it doesn’t work as smartly as you believed it would. You will have to wait a little longer till iOS 6 comes out later this year.
Till then let’s see what all Messages can do for you.

As of now, you can send iMessages to a phone number or to an email address associated with an Apple ID. Read it once more – you can send iMessages to a phone number or to an email address associated with an Apple ID. So, you can not send imessages to an email address or a phone number, which is not associated with an Apple ID.
Good News – You can associate multiple email addresses with your Apple ID. If your friends also do so, you can start iMessage to a lot of people.
To add another email ID to your Apple ID, start Messages and go to Messages -> Preference ->Accounts. In your iMessage account towards the bottom you’ll notice a plus sign (+) using which you can add alternate email IDs to your Apple ID. Once you add an email address, you will have to verify the same as well.

Messages Couldn’t Send the Message to xxx

You can now start using iMessages. If you get an error like “Messages Couldn’t Send the Message to xxx”, it might be because:
  1. You’re not signed in to your Apple ID in Messages
  2. The address you’re sending a message to is not a phone number or email address associated with an Apple ID.
As of now, when you send a iMessage to an Apple ID, it will deliver message to all the devices registered with that Apple ID. You can register up to  5 devices with your Apple ID, so you will get the same message on as much as 5 devices!

How to make the MOST of iOS 6 Do Not Disturb feature

One of the key features in iOS 6 is the Do Not Disturb feature. Do Not Disturb, when turned on, will not only completely silence your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, but it will prevent the screen from turning on when an alert is received.
The need for a Do Not Disturb feature arose from tons of notifications, which keep popping up even while you’re sleeping.
Anyone who has received a late night text message disturbing their sleep, or accidentally received a dumb wrong number phone call in the middle of a meeting, the new Do Not Disturb feature is a lifesaver.
Here’s how to setup Do Not Disturb and manage is right.

How to make the MOST of iOS 6 Do Not Disturb feature

1. Setup Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb is not enabled by default. You need to enable by following the easy steps mentioned below:
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Slide to Turn On the Do Not Disturb feature
enable do not disturb
the iPhone’s new feature that shuts down all incoming messages for as long as you have it on. It’s a great feature that helps you go offline for short durations of time, but you’ll likely want to set it up so certain people can get through to you.

2. How to Schedule Do Not Disturb

You can always use the slider to turn on and off the Do not Disturb feature, however, it requires you to be attentive. If you want to be a true ninja and leave nothing to chance, you need to schedule the Do Not Disturb feature.
how to schedule do not disturb
Do Not Disturb schedule can be enabled from Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb. Here you can set up a specific schedule when Do Not Disturb runs, and set up who you allow incoming calls from. For example, in the screenshot above, I’ve set a Do Not Disturb on my iPhone to allow calls only from those in my Favorite list from 11pm to 6am.
By default, the Repeated Calls feature is ON. You may want to leave this ON just in case there is an emergency and the person calling you tries again within 3 minutes.

How To Restrict Deletion of Apps on iPhone or iPad

IPhone 5
Add caption
An average iPhone user has around 100 apps installed on their iPhone and with increasing no. of apps in the appstore, users tend to download and install more apps on their iPhone or iPad. Over a period of time, it usually gets tough to manage all the apps installed on your iPhone.
Lets say you gave your iPhone to your friend or a kid, and he deleted few apps from your iPhone. Now you can either restore the apps from your iTunes (if already synched and backed up), or you will need to recall the names of app which were installed and then download them one by one from appstore.
To avoid all the trouble, you can disable deletion of apps on your iPhone or iPad. If someone will try to delete the app on your iOS device, they won’t be able to do so. You can follow below steps to do the settings:
Step 1. Go to Settings > General
Step 2. Select Restrictions.
Incase setting is ON you just need to enter your restrictions passcode. If it’s OFF (default setting) then you would need to enable the restrictions first.
Tap ‘Enable Restrictions’ and enter a new passcode. You will be asked to re-enter the restrictions passcode to confirm it.
Now under ‘Allow’ section you should the restriction status of certain apps and features which are ON by default. Setting of ON means that app or feature is allowed to run on your iPhone/iPhone/iPod.
Restrict app deletion on your iPhone/iPad/iPod : Tap ON in front of ‘Deleting Apps’ and it will toggle to OFF. Now go to your iPhone/iPad home screen and try to delete any app. As you would notice thatwhen you press and hold any app on home screen, it would start shaking but  ‘X’ mark required for deletion of app won’t appear.
Now you can be sure that no one else would be able to delete apps on your iPhone/iPad/iPod.
Allow app deletion on your iPhone/iPad/iPod: Whenever you want to enable or allow deletion of apps on your iPhone/iPad firstly follow Step 1 and Step2.
In this case as restrictions are already ON , so you will be asked to enter restrictions passcode. Restrictions passcode is the same passcode which you would have entered while enabling the restrictions. Now tapping the OFF button in front of ‘Deleting Apps’ will toggle it to ‘ON’.
Go to your home screen, press and hold any app icon and now you should see ‘X’ icon on the corner of the app. Tapping ‘X’ icon will delete the app.

How to Resolve iPhone 4S Error 21

Trevor W. reported this issue:
The 2 errors I’m getting are iPhone Error 4S Error 21 and iPhone Error 4S Error 1600. If I fix one error, it just jumps to the other. Any help would be appreciated, just got this thing not too long ago.
It is most likely that you would have configure the software to allow the following domains to send and receive data from the Internet for some special purpose (like downloading a newer OS upgrade when all Apple servers are heavily burdened).

How to Resolve iPhone 4S Error 21

You can easily fix the iPhone Errore 21 or iPhone 4S error 1600 aby temporarily blocking Apple’s firmware signing services. Error 21 or Error 1600 are usually triggered when an unsigned firmware is used, often during an iOS downgrade or even during some restores.Follow the following easy steps to resolve iPhone error 21.
  • Quit iTunes
  • Locate your hosts file. If you’re using Mac OS X, it’s in /etc/hosts and if you’re using Windows, it’s in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  • Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges
  • Comment whichever of the following lines are present in the hosts file: 74.208.105.171 or gs.apple.com and 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
In many cases, iPhone Error 21 or iPhone 4S errore 1600 will get resolved just by updating the hosts file and restarting you computer. If the issue remains unresolved, you need to do a few more steps after updating the hosts file:
  • Connect your iPhone or iPod or iPad to the same computer
  • Launch iTunes
  • Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
  • Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device

How to Unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2 – iOS 5.1 and iOS 5.0

Traveling overseas and want to avoid paying the hefty AT&T international roaming charges? Moved to a different country and AT&T will not unlock your phone? Want to shift to a different cellular network without paying disconnect charges? Hacker Loktar_Sun has discovered how to unlock your iPhone 4S. We have tested it and it works. You can do it too! Learn the easiest way to unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2 running on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.1

Easiest Way to Unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2 on iOS 5.1 and iOS 5.0 Without Paying a Dime

Have a look at the below steps and YouTube video on how to unlock:

Pre-requisites for Unlocking iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2

1. You need your iPhone or iPad to be jailbroken before you can attempt to unlock it. If your iPhone or iPad is not jailbroken yet – here is how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad.
2. Latest version of iTunes.

Steps to Unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2

1. Go to Cydia -> Manage -> Sources. Press Edit and Add repo.bingner.com as one of your app repositories. A bunch of Matrix like code will be installed and once finished without any error message, press Bingner and then press SAM package and install it.
2. Exit Cydia and locate the SAMPrefs icon in your home screen.
3. Inside SAMPrefs, go to Utilities -> Select De-Activate iPhone. Now go to More Information and make sure your iPhone’s or iPad’s activation state is Deactivated.
4. Take out your SIM (which is unlocked) and replace it with the New SIM.
5. Go to Method and change it to “By Country and Carrier”. Come out to SAM home-screen and change Country and Carrier of your new SIM.
6. Click on More Information again. Copy your IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) in SAM Details.
7. Click on Spoof Real SIM to SAM.
8. Go to the main SAM menu and change the Method to manual. Paste the IMSI in the field.
9. Connect the iPhone to iTunes. It might reactivate your iPhone.
10. Disconnect your iPhone when done and quit iTunes.
11. Disable SAM in the SAMPrefs app.
12. Connect your iPhone to the computer. iTunes will start up and tell you it can’t activate the iPhone. Close iTunes and open it again.
13. This time, iTunes will activate your iPhone and it will be unlocked! You can now use your phone in whichever way you want. Just remember not to upgrade your iPhone or iPad to the next iOS release as soon as it is out.
If your push notifications stop working, go to SAM again and click on Clear Push then connect to iTunes again.

Important notes:
  • This is a SIM unlock procedure and not a factory unlock procedure.
  • If you change your SIM card for whatever reason, you will have to repeat the above procedure with every new SIM card you use.

Known Issues:

- Activation rejected: you must select the original carrier SIMID of your Phone

- The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported

Both the above errors are related and they can be solved easily.

1.Ensure that the cellular network information entered is correct.
2. Ensure that you’ve installed correct version of SAM. Go to Settings -> SAM -> Utilities and tap on “Revert Lockdown to Stock” button. Your screen will appear to be hung. Some text will appear showing stockification success. This notification means you have got the right version. If a failure notification pop ups, you need to install SAM from original source.
3. Go to SAM preferences and tap on “Method” now select “By Bundle Name”. Now head back and tap on Bundle menu and select your carrier that you are locked to.
4. Now head over to SIM ID and select your SIM ID, if not sure just select the first one.
5. Now go to More Information and you will see ActivationState as Unactivated.
6. Plugin your iPhone or iPad to your computer. Once you’ve plugged it in, you will notice that your ActivationState has changed to WildCardActivated or Activated.
Now you should have your iPhone unlocked and use it anywhere on the planet!
Let us know if you had any issues or were able to unlock it successfully!

AppleNBerry now offering permanent IMEI unlock for AT&T locked iPhones

AppleNBerry now offering permanent IMEI unlock for AT&T locked iPhones

Often times, we refer our readers to AppleNBerry, the official reseller of the Gevey hardware unlock for certain iPhone4/4S firmware and baseband combinations. Unfortunately, the Gevey unlock is not compatible with all basebands so some users are still stuck with a locked device. Earlier this week, AppleNBerry began offering a new IMEI unlocking service which will permanently, and officially unlock your device without needing to jailbreak. Unfortunately, this is not an inexpensive solution. An IMEI unlock is going to set you back $150, but if you have an AT&T locked phone, with a baseband which is not unlockable, it may be your only option to unlock.
Before purchasing this unlock, we must remind you that recently AT&T began unlocking devices themselves for free as long as the device is off contract, not blacklisted and you are the original owner. We would suggest you try to get AT&T to unlock the phone before resorting to AppleNBerry's unlock. Once you submit your IMEI and Serial number, AppleNBerry will e-mail you after the unlock has processed(1-2 business days according to their website). After that, all you need to do is sync with iTunes and your phone will be permanently unlocked.

The wait time is less than a week now for the orders , Apple is finally catching up with the demands of iphone 5 in the market.
“If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5, so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.”-Apple
