How to Change the Default Search Engine in Firefox?

How to Change the Default Search Engine in Firefox?

In Firefox, you can perform searches from both the address bar as well as the search box. The default search engines are different for the address bar and the search bar. Changing one of them does not change the other. In this article we shall see how to change the default search engine in both the cases.

Change the default search engine of Search Box in firefox

Changing the search engine for the search box is pretty easy. Just click on the drop down arrow beside the search engine icon and select a search engine of your choice. Firefox will remember this and will give search results using this search engine from now onwards whenever you type in the search bar.
Change the default search engine of Address Bar in firefox
Whenever you type a keyword in Firefox’s Address bar (also known as location bar), it’s default search engine is used to show results for that keyword. If you want to change this default search engine of location bar, then you will have to edit about:config of Firefox.

Assuming that you want to change your default search engine to Bing here are the steps to do it:
Make sure you do this carefully.

1. Open about:config in Firefox (type about:config in the address bar and hit enter )
2. Search for keyword.url from the filter box.
3. Double click on this entry. It will open a dialog where you can edit the 'keyword.url' string.
In case you want to change the default search engine to some other search engine like Google, Yahoo, Ask, Conduit, Altavista etc. then simply replace searchengine with the name of the search engine in the string:
For example in case of Google, the url will be:

Attribute Changer 7.10

Attribute Changer is a power user tool to change all kind of file and folder attributes, date, time and even NTFS compression.
Basic features include changing file and folder attributes within en masse. A really useful feature is the compression/decompression of files stored on the Windows NT/2000 and XP NTFS file system. Furthermore, date and time on files and folders can be partially changed. In this case, you can advise Attribute Changer not to change the whole object data, but only parts such as day, month, year, seconds, minutes or hours. The progress can be monitored in realtime on the “Activity and Results” tab.
Filters and exceptions should be used to fine tune the process. Filters include attributes, size, date and time while exceptions are used to filter out files and directory entries using wildcards (* and ?).
What’s New in version 7.10:
  • Keep window position for Detailed Reporting window
  • Option to change case of files and folders
  • Updated help file
  • Lots of changes under the hood
File size: 4 MB

20 Tips To Speed Up Your Computer

20 Tips To Speed Up Your Computer

Finding ways to speed up your computer is the most important thing you could do as a computer user, Follow these tips and you will definitely have a much faster and more reliable PC.

  1. Let your PC boot up completely before opening any applications.

  2. Refresh : Refresh  the desktop after closing any application. This will remove any unused files from the RAM.

  3. Wallpaper :  Do not set very large file size images as your wallpaper. Do not keep a wallpaper at all if your PC is very low on.

  4. Remove Unwanted Programs : Every software program you have on your computer is taking up space. It is not only taking up space, but it might also be checking for updates and connecting to the Internet. It also might be starting up when your computer starts up. it consume RAM.

  5. Resolutions : If you are willing to do anything for faster performance from your PC, then try lowering your display resolution.  The lower it is, the faster your PC.

  6. Fonts : When Windows starts, it loads every single font in the Fonts folder.  Therefore, the more fonts you have, the slower the booting process.  To get rid of unwanted fonts, simply go to the Fonts folder under control panel and remove whatever you don't want.

  7.  Drivers : Update your hardware drivers as frequently as possible.  New drivers tend to increase system speed especially in the case of graphics cards, their drivers are updated by the manufacturer very frequently.

  8. Shortcuts : Do not clutter your Desktop with a lot of shortcuts. Each shortcut on the desktop uses up to 500 bytes of RAM

  9. Recycle bin :  Empty the recycle bin regularly. The files are not really deleted from your hard drive until you empty the recycle bin.

  10. Temporary files : Delete the temporary files and temporary internet files regularly.

  11. De fragment : De fragment your hard drive once every two or three months. This will free up a lot of space on your hard drive and rearrange the files so that your applications run faster.

  12. Free Space :  Always make two partitions in your hard drive. Install all large Software's (like PSP, Photoshop, 3DS Max etc) in the second partition. Windows uses all the available empty space in C drive as virtual memory when your Computer RAM is full. Keep the C Drive as empty as possible.

  13. Tray icons : When installing new Software disable the option of having a tray icon. The tray icons use up available RAM, and also slow down the booting of your PC. Also disable the option of starting the application automatically when the PC boots. You can disable these options later on also from the Tools or preferences menu in your application.

  14. Turn Off Animations : Go to Display Settings from the Control Panel and switch to the Effects Tab. Now turn off Show Windows Content While Dragging and Smooth Edges on Screen Fonts. This tip is also helpful with Windows XP because of the various fade/scroll effects.

  15. Minimizing : If you want to use several programs at the same time then minimize those you are not using.  This helps reduce the overload on RAM.

  16. Restart only Windows : When restarting your PC, hold down Shift to only restart Windows rather than the whole system which will only take a fraction of the time.

  17. Avoid multitasking with large programs : Do not run  a large program like Photoshop or Pinnacle video studio, while running a virus scan at the same time.

  18. Disk Clean Up : Disk Clean Up comes free with Windows and will get rid of the rest of the junk files that you have missed. Go to start menu>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup.

  19. Anti-virus : Always use a anti-virus program.In fact I will recommend Avast as best free free anti-virus.

  20. Dust :  Protect your PC from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and slow down thereby gradually heating your CPU and affecting the processing speed. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the CPU. Never use vacuum.

How To Make A Bootable USB

How To Make A Bootable USB

First  find yourself a large enough and fast enough USB stick to use as your bootable media.

  1. Open Run and then type DISKPART, to run diskpart
  2. Type in LIST DISK to list off all disks attached to your system. Make note of your disk# representing your USB stick
  3. Type SELECT DISK # where # represents YOUR USB STICK
  4. Type CLEAN to erase everything / every partition on the disk. Remember you validated what disk to clean in step 2, right?
  5. Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY to make your new primary partition
  6. Type ACTIVE to mark partition as active
  7. Type FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK  to perform a quick format
  8. Type EXIT to close diskpart – unless you want to make more bootable USB disks
Next up – extract the source files (all files) of your  ISO file to the root of the USB stick. You can use whatever tool you prefer – I used to use WINRAR to open and expand them, or  use any image drive software to use MOUNT image, and copy all file to USB Stick.

You are done with your bootable USB. You can now use this bootable USB as bootable DVD on any computer that comes with USB boot feature (most of the current motherboards support this feature)

Control Your Android Phone From Your Computer

Control Your Android Phone From Your Computer

Hello friends, hope you are all fine. Nowadays most of us use android phone and me too so I searched through online to control my mobile from my computer, in that way I found one way. You can ask me is it possible and even simple? The Answer is YES! You can by an simple application which is free in the market called “Airdroid”.
Why I choose this?
There are many free applications in android market to control and connect your android phone with PC without cable. But the main problem is they uses more memory from your phone so it causes mobile hanging and slows down our phone software processing speed. In this way “AIRDROID” uses very less memory to process this so there is nothing affected by this application.

http://www.2012-tricks.blogspot.com

Steps to follow:
Step 1: Download and InstallAirDroid” application on your Android Device from android market, its fully free application.

Step 2 : After installing Airdroid on your device simply Run it and you will see the screen like the above page. In this you can see the URL(ip address)  and password field.
Step 3: Now you are successfully installed your apps, and ready to connect with you computer. For this you need a web browser.
Step 4: Then open your browser and enter the URL(ip address with port) you see in your Airdroid Device App in your web browsers field like below and hit enter.

Step 5: After you hit enter the new Airdroid will page and prompt you to enter PASSWORD, So you have you enter your password which you seen in your Airdoid Device application. Then click Login.
Step 6 : Now you are ready to Control you android device from your PC. Just control everything. ….
