Facebook’s Ticker Micro-Feed
Love it or hate it, the new micro-feed “Ticker” on Facebook seems here to stay…Here’s a quick tip to get rid of it (while being able to easily re-enable it if you need it for something).
There are really two ways to accomplish this. The first is using AdBlock and the second is using FB Purity.
I’m going to walk you through setting up FB Purity because this tool brings so many neat features to the table that I absolutely depend on it for keeping my Facebook news feeds sane.
Step 1: Get FB Purity
FB Purity is a browser add-on that works for FireFox, Chrome, Safari and Opera.
Visit http://www.fbpurity.com/install.htm and install the right one for your particular browser. You will likely need to re-start your browser after installing it.
Step 2: Go To Settings
To get to the settings area for FB Purity, look at the top of your home page for the little link that says “F.B. Purity” and click it.
Step 3: Configure FB Purity
In the popup box that has opened, locate the listing for “Ticker Bar” and put a check mark in the HIDE box and then click save.
Occasionally after changing settings you may need to refresh the browser page.
I’ve used FB Purity for about two years now and its on my must-have list of browser add-ons. The ability to block apps from the stream (without just blocking the app itself), the ability to block the chat box, the ticker box, to fix the font size issue and to hide certain types of messages from the feed all ROCK!
One note: FB Purity is updated every couple months (A couple weeks after FB makes any major changes) but has no way to notify you of that. Drop by their website every so often and get a fresh copy just to stay current.
FB Purity does a lot more than this as you can see! If you enjoy this tool late me know and I can show you some of the other things it does (like getting the “fluff” out of my feed!). When used together with Facebook’s new Subscription options, its incredibly powerful while still being easy to use!
